Our Matrix accredited careers provision is embedded in every aspect of college life, helping learners to develop lifelong career management skills.

Our careers offer is geared to each learner’s needs and through a range of tools and interactions we aim to support individual career journeys.

Our expert Careers, Progress, Schools Liaison, Study Skills and Apprenticeships teams work together with curriculum teams to provide a high quality wrap around careers offer to every learner in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks, the quality standard for Careers Education.

From pre-enrolment to leaving us and beyond there is a wide range of resources and support on offer to help develop and achieve your career plan.

We want to support you as you take your next steps into your future career. Whether you train with us for a specific job or as a stepping stone to further study we will provide you with the information advice and guidance you need to make choices about the best route for you.

We will offer support through your progress sessions as well as a range of events and tools. Check out our Careers calendar to see what happens through the year.

We also have a range of tools such as Unifrog which can help you to research your future options and links to other local labour market and training information such as BeMore.

If your plan is to go to university you will also find lots of useful information on the UCAS website.

We recognise that parents have a key role to play in supporting and guiding students as they make choices about their futures.

We are committed to supporting you to support your child which is why we hold parent events for new students and for those who are looking to university applications. We aim to give you and your child all of the information you might need.

Whilst much of this work goes on in the college day we are always keen to hear from parents and the following resources can also be very helpful along the way.

Info for Employers

We are committed to working with local employers to ensure that student have the most up to date and appropriate skills for the jobs they will go in to when they leave us.

We work with employers to give students high quality work experience and placement opportunities as well as raising awareness of the range of opportunities available.

We have a dedicated employer partnerships team and run a range of careers and apprenticeships fairs throughout the year which are a great way for students and employers to come face to face.

Careers Advice Questions

We are often asked the following questions by many of our students...

Your Progress Tutor and/or course tutor will be able to go through all of your progression options with you and can they may also direct you to additional resources online or in the Study Hubs.

Progress Tutors are able to help students with their personal statements and university applications. In addition, you may also have contact with the College’s Admissions Team who process and send UCAS applications.

College staff organise careers fairs so all students have the chance to speak to universities and employers related to their chosen subject area.

Learning Support

If you have identified a learning difficulty and/or a disability, the Learning Support Team will contact you to discuss how to support you appropriately. Identified students who disclose a support need are individually interviewed to assess their needs and the level/type of support or tutoring required.

Financial Support

At Southport College we have a range of financial support packages designed to help meet a range of cost associated with studying including bursaries, travel passes, help with kit and uniforms and childcare support.

Personal Support

Our aim is to ensure every student reaches their potential with us and we have staff available for any individual who may need support and care. Students can access counselling and personal support during their time with us.
